If you type "show ver", the last few lines will be something like:

You need to boot the router into romboot ios in order to make the
flash read/write for upgrading. See the 2501 upgrade instructions
that Doug directed you to for more details.

LAT is terminal server cruft that you don't need to worry about unless
you work in a DEC shop. Even then, you may decide that you want to
ignore it. :)
