[nsp] 5505 and 10/100 module drives me crazy..

Good day, people.

Story is as follows:

We bought a catalyst 5505 in the following configuration:

Console> (enable) sh module
Mod Slot Ports Module-Type Model Status
--- ---- ----- ------------------------- ------------------- --------
1 1 0 Supervisor IIG WS-X5540 ok
3 3 10BaseT Ethernet Ext WS-X5014
4 4 48 10BaseT Ethernet WS-X5014 ok
5 5 24 10/100BaseTX Ethernet WS-X5234 ok

(First, it was WS-X5225R in the place of WS-X5234), and I could not get it
to autonegotiate nor get it to work with fixed speed (100M) at all with
*anything* at all. I've checked everything I could, upgraded software to
5.2(1), and nothing helped. Cisco agreed to swap the interface card, and now
as you can see I have X5234, but... situation persists.

Here is the testing scenario:

Console> (enable) sh conf 5
#module 5 : 24-port 10/100BaseTX Ethernet
set port speed 5/1 100
set port duplex 5/1 full

2620's FastEther0/0 connected to 5/1 is:

interface FastEthernet0/0
 no ip address
 no ip directed-broadcast
 speed 100

When I do "clea int f0/0" I get this on the debug output:

00:29:57: FastEthernet0/0: Interface is alive
00:29:59: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface FastEthernet0/0, changed state to up
00:30:00: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet0/0,
changed state to up
00:30:05: FastEthernet0/0: PHY 0x0, read reg = 0x1, val = 0x7809
00:30:05: FastEthernet0/0: PHY 0x0, read reg = 0x0, val = 0x2000
00:30:06: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet0/0,
changed state to down

Router#sh int f0/0
FastEthernet0/0 is up, line protocol is down

...

But on the switch:

Console> (enable) sh por 5/1
Port Name Status Vlan Level Duplex Speed Type
----- ------------------ ---------- ---------- ------ ------ -----
------------
 5/1 connected 1 normal full 100
10/100BaseTX
......
Port Align-Err FCS-Err Xmit-Err Rcv-Err UnderSize
----- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------
 5/1 293 197 0 0 0

Port Single-Col Multi-Coll Late-Coll Excess-Col Carri-Sen Runts Giants
----- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- --------- ---------
---------
 5/1 0 0 0 0 0 142
0

And these counters keep on raising... Switch thinks that port is connected,
"LINK" LED is lit, but Router does not seem to think so...

And, most importantly, IT IS A BRAND-NEW CARD and Switch.

May the absence of the uplink module from the SE (I have IIG as you can see
above) cause this? I really don't have anything else to blame.. Switch's
config has been cleared up completely and both catalyst and 2620 have been
rebooted...

P.S. By the end of me writing this letter, we have:

Align-Err: 451
FCS-Err: 280
Runts: 206

Any comments?
