Unfortunately, in my case this is not the cause of the problem. I have
the 7500/PA-FE-TX configured as a trunk, full duplex (speed is always
100 Mbps here, IOS won't let you configure 10 Mbps):

interface FastEthernet1/0/0
 no ip address
 no ip redirects
 no ip directed-broadcast
 no ip route-cache distributed
 full-duplex

and the 3548XL is explicitly configured as 100 Mbps full duplex:

interface FastEthernet0/43
 duplex full
 speed 100
 switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,201-203,1002-1005
 switchport mode trunk

And I'm still getting CRC errors on the 3548XL.

Any other negotiation which might cause this problem (that can be turned
off)?
