Hi,

   Can anybody tell me what's being used as a key
   when message-digest authentication is configured
   for an area but no keys are configured on the
   interfaces....

   "sh ip ospf int" and "debug ip ospf adj" reveals that
   default key id 0 is being used.

   Question is....what's the corresponding key ???
   Null ??
   Some other cisco internal value ??
