Uh, this is the CISCO-nsp list, and the original poster specifically asked
about portfast. Portfast is a well defined thing, ie its a command on cisco
spanning tree enabled devices. But none the less, yes this problem can
happen on other vendors.

In this discussion, the contributors have been talking about
"portfast" as if it was a well defined thing. Every switch
vendor I've looked at has something similar and they don't
all behave the same. Some vendors merely shorten the listen
and learn periods rather than eliminate them altogether. We
found that on some Bay/Nortel switches, portfast was not
fast enough for some Macs. YMMV.
