From previous discussion, it seems that the beast sitting on the IO controller
has access to twice the bandwidth of one in a slot. Whether this is due to
a 2x PCI rate implementation or access to both PCI busses is unclear, I'd
guess the first.

Of course unless it's a stem-router application, the packets still need to
go somewhere else, so you're still not talking wire-speedy Gig-E -> Gig-E.
