Reloading the router can change the ifindex of an interface unless you
have the very useful snmp-server ifindex persist set.

Not in 12.1E AFAIK.

In 12.2 you could do show snmp mib ifmib ifindex atm1/1/0.100

I'm sure you realise you can snmpwalk
interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifDescr or run the cfgmaker binary that is
part of MRTG to answer your question as to whether the ifindexes have
changed.
