[nsp] flash curropted on the pix

Try booting off a floppy with the old boothelper image, then once that's
loaded, boot the correct image from a local machine.  Reference the below
URL for more help, but use the boothelper for 5.0 code.

At what point during the boot process does the machine reboot.

Have you tried to interrupt the boot process, and reinstall the old image?
