[c-nsp] "Assert failure in ..." error

Assertion failures means that there's a line somewhere in the source
code where something went horribly wrong in a way that the programmer
believes can't possibly happen.  Most likely, some part of the system
crashed, is stuck or isn't working properly.  Almost certainly it's not
cosmetic.
