There is a mismatch, so the PFC needs to reset so it can fall back to a
common mode - the 3A mode. If you are using features that aren't
supported by the 3A (and there are a lot), you'd be better off getting a
BXL DFC. See:

Subject: [c-nsp] WS-F6700-DFC3A "Incompatible" Error message

We have a client that has purchased a WS-X6748-GE-TX with the
WS-F6700-DFC3A
DFC card and is getting the following message after installing the blade
into a 6509 with the WS-SUP720-3BXL (including the WS-F6K-PFC3BXL)
engine:

54w4d: %C6KENV-SP-2-DFCMISMATCHMINOR: Module 9 DFC installed is
incompatible with system operating mode. Power denied.
To enable Module 9 DFC, the system must be reset.
WARNING: Any system reset will change the system operating mode which
can
result in degradation of system performance. To eliminate this from
occurring, remove Module 9 DFC or replace with a system compatible DFC.

A search of Cisco's site came up with this:

Error Message C6KENV-2-DFCMISMATCHMINOR: Module [dec] DFC
installed is incompatible with system operating mode. Power
denied. To enable Module [dec] DFC, the system must be reset.

WARNING: Any system reset will change the system operating mode
which can result in degradation of system performance. To
eliminate this from occurring, remove Module [dec] DFC or
replace with a system compatible DFC.

Explanation This message indicates that the DFC in the specified slot
does
not have the same software operating mode as the rest of the system. The
DFC will remain powered down and cannot be activated.

Recommended Action Enter the show module and show platform earl-mode
commands to view the difference between the DFC in the specified slot
and the operating mode of the rest of the system.

I am looking for more information on "system operating mode" and what
exactly this error means before we reset the switch.

Thanks
