[c-nsp] Solarwinds Orion & Cirrus - Thoughts?

We use SolarWinds here at my workplace (a small CLEC, ISP & managed
services provider). As the case with all other suites of this nature,
if what you are monitoring is monitorable entirely by means of SNMP
and vendor SNMP MIBs, this would be a good solution for you. It provides
integrated graphing and monitoring and availability statistics reporting
information in one package.

If you have any more customised requirements, unfortunately it fails in
the same fashion as most other high-end network management / monitoring
packages and you could benefit from the flexibility open-source solutions
offer you as far as scripting integration, APIs and data set acquisition
hooks.

Unless, of course, you want to take the approach of building a specialised
SNMP server for this sort of thing and reporting the output of a bunch of
scriptables through custom OIDs. :)

Also, I don't believe SolarWinds has config management capabilities along
the lines that Kiwi CatTools offers. However, I could be wrong,
especially since we are still running SolarWinds v7, not 8+.
