That's pretty much what the unit I posted about earlier today was doing. 
For the heck of it, could you post output from the following two commands?

sh bootvar
rem com sw sh bootvar

The crashing part is different.  Are you sure you have enough RAM on both 
the switch and msfc for the new code?
