I don't know anything about VSS, so I can't comment on that - but that
wasn't the original question (only "multiple linecards").

VSS is basically something that we consider as "looks nice on glossy 
paper" but is completely uninteresting for our environment - we do 
*not* want "one big single virtual thing" which will fail in funny and 
everything-at-once ways.  Individual control is good, additional 
complexity is bad.
