You should be looking at the "Flow Based" option...

I have tried the same thing (trunk-channeling), and it just does not
work on ASRs (yet?).

So yes, you are right, there seems to be no other solution right now.
Maybe someone from Cisco can tell us whether this issue will be
remedied.
