We do send it in a Cisco VSA called "client-mac-address" though, but you need CSCdw44464 which is not in your version of code. It doesn't look like there is any uBR release which has this feature in it right now. Since the switchover, we have had several (over 20) Toshiba PCX 2200 Cable Modems that will not come online with a Fastflow provisioning server. These modems are spread over 4 different towns and 4 different Cisco 7100 CMTS. They were working prior to our conversion from the old provisioning company's custom provisioning server. The modems sync up to the CMTS, they get an IP from the DHCP server, but they fail on the TFTP transfer. It starts, but fails after a bit. I can ping the modems in question during this period that they are trying to download the config file. It is a very basic 1.0 config file in question. We can take a Motorola modem to the same customer's house, and it works just fine. Any ideas as to why this may be happening? My wish was that with such a configuration the CMTS would assign every 2 CM on one upstream (upstream 0) and every 2 other CM on the second upstream (upstream 1). After trials in my lab, I have no success. Do you know if this Cisco uBR can support such a fonctionality ? If yes, do you have an idea how to configure it in order to dynamically assign one upstream (or one frequency, if you prefer) to a modem at the initialization phase ? Last question: Would I have the same problem, if I were using uBR7206 routers (with MC16C or MC28S cards) ? I know it is easy to do it with two different downstreams with a config file assigning the modem one or the other downstream, but I can not realize my idea with one downstream and two upstreams. Please take a look at the following link and see if it helps you out: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/cable/ps2217/products_feature_guide09186a00801b17f2.html Unfortunately this feature is only supported on the uBR7246VXR and uBR10012 CMTSs, not the uBR7100. By the way, if you want to do this statically via the DOCSIS configuration file you can use the "Upstream Channel ID" field in the configurator to assign CMs to a particular upstream port. But this does not scale too well. Kind Regards, Adeel. --- Yann GAUTERON wrote: > Dear all, > > I am trying in a lab with a Cisco uBR-7114 router to > assign to an HFC > node one downstream and two upstreams (on different > frequencies). The DOCSIS way is to use the cablemodem config file to set the upstream channel. You could put residential on one channel and business on another, or voice, etc. Your provisioning system makes the decisions but you can't change (load-balance) them very easily. The Cisco way is dynamic and doesn't require the modems to know. I believe you have to run something in the 12.2(15)BC series. All of the modems come up on the first frequency, but some percentage (configurable) will get a message to move to the second channel. I believe Cisco has other strategies as well, but I didn't see an immediate need for them. I'll find the docs later if you're interested, but it will have to wait for coffee. As for the 7114 being able to support two upstreams... I think it should work _if_ the right IOS version 12.2.15BC can be loaded. I know for sure that it works with 7246's with MC-28U. Hope that helps, --Ben Kirkpatrick On Fri, 8 Apr 2005, Yann GAUTERON wrote: > Dear all, > > I am trying in a lab with a Cisco uBR-7114 router to assign to an HFC > node one downstream and two upstreams (on different frequencies). Does everyone use the default settings for their modulation profiles, or are they using the settings recommended by Cisco to allow short bursts to be up to 76bytes in length? 2. What kind of backoff settings are you using? Are you using the default settings or are you using modified range-backoff and data-backoff settings? 3. Are you MTUB settings set to 1600 or are you using 3044, the default that seems to occur in DOCSIS v1.1? Our telephony partner will not be using DQoS to dynamically create the call service flows. Because of this, I am manually creating two dedicated service flows for the voice traffic in the docsis1.1 config file. I am using the UGS scheduling type on the upstream. My question is this: By using the UGS scheduling type, am I reserving that bandwidth so that only that modem and that service flow can ever use that bandwidth? Currently, the UGS service flow takes approximately 98k of bandwidth. If I provision 50 UGS service flows, will I have effectively reserved all my bandwidth and not have any left over for the BE traffic? Thanks for any help! Otherwise, it's business as usual and the Best Effort traffic will be able to use that bandwidth.
