  Lelio

I am implementing a solution now where we used PVDMs as follows:

1.. to handle the E1 PRI lines - probably the equivalent of your T1s.
2.. at remote branches to handle the ISDN basic rate line to the telco for local breakout

and soon we will have to add DSPS - PVDMs to allow conferencing in branches and also to HQ across the IP cloud. As far as I know the Call Manager only supports G711 conferences so if a branch connects to HQ across an IP wan in a centralised CCM model via G729 you will need DSPs at HQ to mix the G729 and G711 calls in a conference

also see the DSP calculator on www.cisco.com - as clear as MUD in some cases as to how many DSPs to buy - but once you playe with it online and get used to it it is actually very usefull. DSPs are expensive so it is important to plan and get it right first time

Can anyone explain briefly what the PVDMs are used for on the routers? Do I need these if I am going to be running T1s, FXOs and SRST or do I need them just for conferencing?
