Don't forget the cisco switches may have some issues detecting that they are phones, since you are probably not using Cisco IP phones. You will probably have to set the VLANs for the phones manually as access vlans on the ports assigned to non-cisco IP phones. Good Luck.

Here is a good link for the 3500xl.

yes VGW is Voice Gateway.
How does Avaya work with support since your using another vendors network? I know Cisco doesnt like supporting other vendors.

The Switches are 3500XLs... It is an Avaya system, and call managing will be handled by that and forgive my ignorance, but what is A VGW? Voice Gateway?
If it is a Voice Gateway, then we're still awaiting that to come in, we just ordered that last week.. but I was asked to see what would be needed to get the network ready for IP Phones

What kind of Switch?
Do you already have CM and VGWs setup?

Hi all,
I'm wondering what basics are needed for allowing IP Phones access on a Cisco Switch network... We are looking at implementing some IP Phones.
I'm assuming that a Dedicated VLAN for the IP Phones, use of Native VLAN for non-tagged packets and a DHCP server are needed... but I'm not sure what else is needed.
If anybody has a good source for some basic information on basic VOIP setup would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Wayne
