The vg248 does not comply to Bellcore specs for off premise extensions. i.e. it doesn't have overload protection. the vic-2 and vic-4 FXS modules for routers do have proper overload protection to minimize damage.

What have others done for protection against the elements on their analog ports? We have a few emergency poles on our campus that get hit by lightning a few times a year, and where we understand there will be some replacement parts necessary, we don't want this thing travelling down the wirepath to our vg248 and blowing that thing up.
