I believe you can use g729 with CCM 5.1, but I have not tried it. SIP
trunks in 4.1(3) require MTP (software MTP is G711 only) and includes
the g711 codec in the initial INVITE. So it will only do G711. 5.1
does not require MTP as long as your phones support the RFC compliant
version of DTMF relay.
I believe the only workaround is to configure SIP on a router acting
as an IP-IP gateway and define it as a H323 gateway in CallManager.

Hellos
I am trying to configure a sip trunk between a callmanager and OpenSer
SIP Server.
I am able to send calls through successfully with G711a/ulaw codec (
these are the only 2 options under sip trunks configuration page) .
When I put the SIP server in a different region and change the audio
codec for communicating
with the region with callmanager , the calls fails.,
Are other codecs supported in sip trunks,
Any workarounds?
Regards
./Tusker
