[cisco-voip] Checking Telco Line status remotely

On newer ISR model routers (maybe others), you can do the command below which is a very basic test to see if there is voltage being seen on the line or not. YMMV depending on phone line conditions, etc.

term mon
test voice port port# si-reg-read 29 1

Example:

term mon
test voice port 0/2/0 si-reg-read 29 1

A value of 0x00 indicates there is no voltage being seen on the line/voice port.
You need the term mon to see the output of this command.

Hi Paul,

Aside from debugging, are there any simple way to check? Reason that i ask is bec. our client is not that familiar with cisco and about 60 FXO lines to be checked.

Migrating from avaya pbx which has something like "out of service" output that allows them to check daily or weekly the status of their pstn line easily. It will be a hassle for them to gather those debugs and analyze in order to determine if any of those pstn lines have a problem.

Thanks,

Jeff

You could use debug commands to verify connectivity.

'terminal monitor'
'debug vpm <x>'

'debug vtsp <x>'

Get ready for a flood of information if you turn these
on and it's probably best not to do this at peak usage
hours as this uses a significant amount of CPU power.
