If you buy them from HP then Cisco software only licensing makes up for any cost savings. Just buy them from Cisco.
For example I like the DL380G5 but Cisco software only licensing says if your buying this box then you must be planning for some serious users thus you need to buy the big user software only license, negating any savings.
I guess if you bought a software only license for a DL320/SATA you might save something.
Everytime I ran a configurator in 2005 and compare it to software only there wasn't any significant cost savings due to cisco software only licensing pricing.

All TAC will support are Cisco branded MCS or HP or IBM per-cisco
blueish-green. All others are NOT TAC supported.(period)

PS. Best bet to save money is by the HP's straight from HP.

Subject: [cisco-voip] Callmanager on other than Cisco HP servers
Does anyone use servers than the typical HP servers that Cisco sells for
CallManager? If so, how is the service from TAC in relation to a server
that Cisco does not sell? What is the best brand of server to use other
than for the Cisco server, Dell?
Thanks for the help.
Rob
