anyone know if there is a way to reset phones to factory defaults remotely?

i'm investigating modifying the locale files, but the only way to get the phone to reload them is via an erase config and letting the phone start from scratch.

if i can't do it remotely, i faintly recall that the phone goes through some sort of procedure where by if it can't connect to the TFTP server after so many tries it reloads or something like that.

any hints out there?
