I am about 97% sure that the Lip was added when Cisco Started making Phones With 802.3af spec. The ones without the lip are the ones who where Cisco Pre Standard POE I.E. 7940s and 60s. Maybe some of our Cisco members might want to chime in on this one.

Hi,
> Good point. Does anyone have this kind of equipment and that can confirm this?

yes, can confirm this. 7961G has a 'lip' around 50% of the DC connector...so
you cant just use the cisco pwrinj from an 1131 (and as we've got PoE
switches, we've got lots of those pwrinj in the store room(!)
