There is a scheduled task that sounds a lot like that. hmmmmmm 

Tools > Task Management > Refresh Cached Mailstore Sizes 

Determines current sizes of mail stores and updates mail store parameter values.

Anyone seen an issue where a mailbox shows a negative number of bytes in the mailbox information section? This is causing the mailbox to say its full when its in fact empty
