Unless the flash itself causes the problem, I have never seen Cisco deny
support on the basis of
non-Cisco approved parts. Cisco has been more than willing (in my
experience) to replace parts
of their gear that MIGHT be problematic in advance of an actual solution.
I have seen few vendors that do it as well as Cisco. Even the hold times
there are better than
many other vendors of their scope.
YMMV, I guess it depends on what kind of service contracts you have.

hardware (in fact they don't even like supporting 2nd-user hardware as we've

If you are just talking price, you are correct... but performance being
equal,
finding the best price or paying for product only and not the brand name
will
have little effect on the performance of your solution. All the stuff is
manufactured by other companies these days anyway, so chances are you are
getting or can get the same hardware minus the name for significant savings.
