I'm confused... if it is going into a DACS, don't they have to frame it, or
at least agree on the framing type because they're going to have option-able
CO equipment? I could see if it was simply in/out on a central-office frame
that you wouldn't want them to do anything to it...

What you want from the phone company is "clear channel" and B8ZS.
You do not what them to run ESF or to fiddle with your framing
in any way on a point-to-point link. Often it is in your interest
to tell the phone company that you will be using ESF because they
can passively monitor your stream for CRC-6 errors and tell you
what they see at their intermediate points. But they shouldn't
configure their equipment for ESF -- if that means terminating your
framing and generating their own.
