You shouldnt have to pre-create the log files on linux, not sure what OS
your using as your log server tho. But the permissions may not be the way
you want them if you dont pre-create it.
The only two things i can think of are (and i dont want to be rude at all,
just sometimes i miss simple stuff myself):
make sure you sig -HUP the daemon after config file changes.
make sure you have syslog started with the remote switch as well (probably
already have it this way if one is working tho)
