There are a number of good books on SONET, but the problem is that
like ATM, there's a lot more to SONET then you'd ever want to worry
about to turn up a POS link.
POS is simple, you order and OC-nC from your provider and plug the
fiber into the card, crib off the sample config in the PA-POS manual
and voila, it works... If it's just a dark fiber x-connect you turn
on clocking both ways.
If you want to go deeper:
SONET & T1: Architecurres for Digital Transport Netoworks
Black & Waters 1997
Prentice Hall ISBN 0-13-447590-9
This is a good overview of SONET and how it all ties in with the
reset of the voice/data infrstructure.
SONET (second edition)
Goralski 2000
ISBN 0-07-212570-5
A bit more up-to-date and datacomm oriented, it's also bigger and
more detailed, but a lot of that is new-wave publishing format vs.
content.
