I tried it just there and if you enable the loopback on the interface it
will stay
up ;-). I tried it on the Fas 0/0 port the controller of a 7200 whose media
type
is MII, I havent remote access to another box with a 100BaseT but it should
work.
Let me know if it works for you I am kinda curious now.
