Default OSPF cost in IOS is based on a reference bandwidth of 10^8
(100Mbps), which means any link with a speed >=100M gets a cost of 1.
With links in the 1-8Gbps range this doesn''t work well.
I''m aware that I can change the reference bandwidth with "ospf auto-cost
reference-bandwidth".
However I have links in the range 64K - 8G, and setting the reference
bandwidth to 8G yields an OSPF cost of 125000(>65535!) for a 64K link.
Now to my question: Has anyone deviced a logarithmic OSPF cost scale,
similar to what has been done for Spanning Tree at some point?
