I seem to have found ST image that works in default configuration -
12.0(16)ST - works just fine. I've tried and failed, as I mentioned before,
with 17ST2 and 18ST. Just FYI.

ST might be more stringent to what the OSPF hello packets need to look like, and Juniper is sending them correctly. I've never delved into the cause.
