I have a 6509 running 12.1(11b)E (IOS-only) which is regularly counting
up output drops on one of the GigE ports on the Sup2:
#sh in g1/1
GigabitEthernet1/1 is up, line protocol is up
Full-duplex mode, link type is force-up, media type is LH
output flow-control is unsupported, input flow-control is unsupported, 1000Mb/s
input flow-control is off, output flow-control is off
Input queue: 0/2000/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 95054
Queueing strategy: fifo
Output queue :0/40 (size/max)
1 minute input rate 73670000 bits/sec, 11402 packets/sec
1 minute output rate 30917000 bits/sec, 10983 packets/sec
Notice that the link is running well below capacity. The output drops
increment regularly, and there is an output drop about every 320 packets.
The link is an L2 VLAN trunk:
interface GigabitEthernet1/1
switchport
switchport trunk encapsulation isl
switchport mode trunk
no ip address
and the switch at the other end of the link is a 3508.
Any suggestions to how I can find out what kind of traffic is being
dropped and why?
