I'd like to make my own CAB-5MODEM DB25-RJ45 adaptors as I'm short a few
and have bags of bulk DB25-RJ45 adaptors.

From cio.cisco.com, I found:

---
Question:

What pinouts are required for the AUX ports and for the async ports on the Communication Servers (25xx, ASM, CS-500)?

Answer:

Use a ROLLED cable. Use a CAB-MMOD aka CAB-5MODCM. If you do NOT use a rolled cable, reverse pins 1-8 in the below chart

Adapter for modem, assuming use of a ROLLED RJ-45 cable

RJ45 DB25 Signal name 1 5 CTS 2 8 CD 3 3 RxD 4 7 GND 5 7 GND 6 2 TxD 7 20 DTR 8 4 RTS ---

What's the deal with running 2 RJ45 wires into DB25 pin 7? That's kind of a PITA to do using standard kits. Are both necessary? Can one of the RJ45 pins 4 or 5 be put somewhere else or left floating without causing trouble?
