Agreeing with him...
One other example of something that seems to be possible with
route setup (e.g., something like
MPLS), and doesn't seem to be possible with hop-by-hop
forwarding is sabotage-proof routing. With potentially
malicious routers, and a truly distributed forwarding decision,
it's much harder to wind up with a working path than if you
can choose a path, set it up, and forward data over it.
