My guess would be that MPLS does not kick in in this case, i.e. APS wins, in
particular when APS is provided inside the SONET/SDH network.

On the other hand MPLS could trigger a reroute to an alternative path (if
available!), and reverts back to the original path soon after that. The
latter could happen considering both are triggered on the same event. This
seems more likely when APS is configured on the router itself.
