If you want to make it more whiz-bang you can:
- download RealServer Basic (free)
- enable multicast on it
- do a simulated broadcast of an .rm file
- connect to your server with clients running RealPlayer, and you'll have
multicast video traffic coming out of your server.

You can use Windows Media Server too but this requires Windows 2000/NT
Advanced Server I think.

        You can either a) announce a session in sdr and ask others if they
see it and can get your content. b) set up a multicast beacon. c) set up
a static-join for a group and see if you get traffic.
