Actually, the newest versions of TiMOS won't down-grade the boot-loader anymore (it was introduced in 6.0R12, 6.1R7 and 7.0R1). Previous versions, though, should allow you to downgrade. In any case, though, the newest bootloaders are always backwards compatible.

Subject: [alcatel-nsp] downgrade the boot ROM on a 7710 / 7750 ?
I have a question concerning the software upgrade of a 7710 SR (it should be the same that the one of a 7750 SR): I would like to test the upgrade a few times in my lab.
Yet I have to make a boot ROM upgrade using the "admin save upgrade" command. Can I use the same command to do a downgrade to the initial version of the boot ROM? If not, how can I downgrade the boot ROM to a former version?
Thanks a lot!
