FYI,
The Dallas Amateur Radio Club receives many donations over a years
period from the estates of SK's. These may have been from families of
old members or other's who would like to see the equipment doing some
good. Our club offers this equipment for sale on the net occasionally,
but it will usually be sold in our annual auction to raise money to
support the club's mission and projects. If you could see the bills to
support 3 repeaters and a Mobile Emergency Communications Van, plus the
usual projects for a club with 300 members, you would understand that
dues won't do it!

The families and heirs are not interested in the value of the equipment
if it is offered as a donation to the club. As the DARC is a 501c3,
non-profit group. Their donation can be documented when the equipment is
sold and tax deductions may be possible. This is rarely requested
though.

The DARC's annual auction brings some great bargains to the ham
community. The prices that equipment sold for last February was well
under most of the asking prices on the net. A lot of unused equipment is
now in the hands of hams that will put it too good use. It was
interesting to see a lot of Tech's and Tech+'s picking up HF rigs and
getting excited about upgrading after picking up a good deal .

I hope this gives you some insight in the benefit to donating equipment
to a club and then seeing it sold at the best possible price vs effort.
