Don't know anything about the radios but L. A. Hyland went on to head up
Hughes Aircraft Company in LA back in the 1960's. I know because I worked
there at the time. Hughes Electronics has a nice web site with a
historical page or two. Maybe the webmaster can provide info on Hyland
that will lead to your answer.
