Ranger VFO Help?

Hello Folks:
Last night I finally set up a lovely Ranger which I bought about 6
months ago.  I't main function will be for local AM contacts on 75 and
160.  Seems to work well, but I hear the VFO in the receiver when I am
not transmitting or in the "zero" position.  I can recall hearing of a
modification to eliminate this trait, can anyone point me in the right
direction to find it?   Thanks for your help.
