Replacement dial cord?

Greetings all,

I vaguely remember that this has been discussed before, but I can't seem to
find it in my archives.

The dial cord that rotates the drum in my R-388 broke.  I tried replacing it
with monofilament fishing line (30-lb test), but it seems to slip.

What have others found makes good dial cord replacement material?
