Johnson Ranger *no grid current*

Hi all,

I have a Ranger I that I have been off and on trying to fix various
problems. The latest one is a lack of grid drive.
First let me say, this is the early model. It does not have the grid-block
keying control circuitry.

Ok, I have checked all tubes and they all are ok, I have even gone ahead
and replaced the 6AQ5 (clamper) and both 6CL6's. Still no grid current.

The only other thing I can say off the top of my head, is in the "OSC"
position it seems ok with between 24 to 32ma, according to the manual. Now,
also according to the manual when you put it in the "BUFFER" position, it
should go to 40ma advancing the drive pot completely clockwise. This is not
what I get. I can barely advance the drive pot beyond the one o'clock
position and it pegs the meter.

Let me also say that I had to replace the drive pot because it burned up. I
have an exact replacement in it right now.

If anything comes to mind, please let me know. I'd like to get this thing
back on my desk before the millennium!

Thanks,
Keith, KK5FE
