OLD ALLIED RADIO

Jacob - I stayed with my grandmother and grandfather in Chicago during
the school summer vacation in 1947 (I'm showing my age!!!). I visited
Allied Radio on Western Avenue and purchased a Weller 135-watt soldering
gun (brown colored) and a Simpson 260 VOM. I still have both items and
they work perfectly. The soldering gun is on its 4th AC line cord and
third trigger switch, but it balances in the hand better than any of the
black models that came later.

I was quite impressed with Allied and the size of the building. When I
got back to my grandmother's house. I scared the poor woman with the
soldering gun - she thought I had bought a real gun!
