     Joe:

Maybe we should buy it and start building Collins Radios again!!!
Nice dream, but probably impossible today.

Hi Jacob,

When I was in high school I would, skip school, walk over to Western Avenue,
hop on the Western Avenue bus and travel up to Allied Radio. Boy, if my
father ever found out! I would travel there in great anticipation. The
building filled most of a full square block and stood three stories high.
Best of all was the Ham Shack. I knew exactly where my dream radio sat. It
was a Hallicrafters S-62A. Hallicrafters company was about a mile and a half
away on Kostner. I could, and did spend many hours at Allied.

After reading your post I had to drive by the old Allied Radio building. Yes,
the building still stands, just as it did thirty years ago. It is now being
used by the State of Illinois for their Human Services Department. There is a
large sign out front offering the building for sale or lease. Dreams of
buying the building and starting a New Allied Radio passed through my head.
I would buy it just so I could revisit the Ham Shack.
