Lack,of Radio Stores

Bryan - To add to your lament about major metropolitan areas without any
more ham stores: it's incredible that the city of Seattle and all its
suburbs does not have a single ham radio store! The nearest one is in
Bremerton, either a 1-hour ferry ride from Seattle or almost two hours
by car from Seattle.

But we can blame ourselves - we went to these stores and played with the
goodies, and then ordered the rigs through some 800 number, where it was
cheaper, had no sales tax, and sometimes not even any postage. The small
retailer with overhead and the cost of financing the units they had on
display could not compete. Now when we need a resistor or a piece of
wire, they're not there for us anymore. We did it to ourselves!!
