Tube Data Sheet

Hi Dick:

I can't find my data sheet on the 304-TL, either, but I do have the
following information from an old publication, telling how to put them to
use in the early 50s, even tho they were already obsolete even then:

Filaments: 5-v/50A or 10-v/25A (250-watts either way!).
The article says that at 2500-3000-v, a pair of them will give 600-watts of
zero grid current audio power. He says the spec sheet states that at 2500-v
in Class C phone operation, a pair requires only 36 ma. of grid current
(22-watts), plus circuit losses.

His data was for 2500-v on the plates, with -300-v grid voltage at RF, and
-290-v as modulators. Additional grid leak bias is needed when used at RF.

So if at 2500-v plate voltage, a pair gives 600-w of audio, you can easily
figure what the plate current should be to arrive at 600-w of output. And
you should be able to run them in Class B or AB2 linear operation for SSB at
RF using the audio ratings. They're pretty rugged old bottles!

Hope this helps.

Keith
