Some years ago at the Boxborough Massachusetts ARRL hamfest, Heath made its
last appearance with its line of ham gear, which for hf at that time
comprised two transceivers, both factory assembled, one of course in the
Yaesu factory.
I got into a conversation with one of the engineers, who told me they had
decided it was no longer possible to package and write manuals for projects
as complex as transceivers.
I asked him why for all those years Heath had used RCA phono connectors for
RF. He said we took a look at Collins and they used them, and figured if it
was good enough for Collins, it was good enough for us.
