Hi Collins Collectors
I have just gone thru a very clean "Collins" circa '55 R390A. Gears & bearings
cleaned and lubed with syntek oil & clock grease in appropriate places.Very
little if any wear on gear train. Rf racks cleaned & rollers lubbed, main
chassis & all sub chassis cleaned. Many tubes replaced (all meet specs now)
& radio aligned to better than specs. Finially, I replaced the panel with
panel that letters etched in (orig Collins panel is silk screened) & panel
stripped, zinc chromate primed, painted original color & letters filled in.
All knobs stripped & etched & painted. Radio now looks new. Top & bottom
covers are with radio. Flaw: line level meter dial inside screws loose so
dial moves but seems to cause no problem. I didnt notice this problem until
I got meter off panel. Cant be fixed only replaced. Overall this radio is a
9 on scale of 10 being new. Price $500.firm + shipping. Note: Packing will
have to be in special foamed in double wall box & I will charge you whatever
it cost me. To your advantage to pickup in Shenandoah Valley Virginia. One
last note about the operation of this radio. I use a Wavetek 3000B to align
the radio & was impressed with less than 1 u/volt sensitivity. Radio now
performs at or better than my souped up Drake R4C. Any interest?
