715B Tubes

Memories.    Back in the early sixties I had a large group of 715Bs.
looked at them for quite a while, saw the application, and thought,  that
would be quite a linear.
 the four cathodes from the 300B had a very large emission
capability------------
 any how, after a lot of trying built a linear with 2- 715Bs  in
parallel.  The cutoff bias was about 6 volts or so with 3 kv on the
plates.  ran the idle plate current at 50 ma, 25 per tube.. drove the
thing with a 20A, cathode driven.  got lots of power in the ant, about
800 W PEP.  BUT  when one decided to arc over, the national R-175 plate
choke lost its windings the hard way, all over the room. The output
filter cap on the 3 kv supply was 40 mfd.  need one say more?   ah
