Thanks to all who responded to my posting on the burned out power transformer.

There was much good advice:

1. Don't get them wet.

2. If you get them wet remove the transformer and bake for a couple of hours
   at 235 degrees in an oven.

3. Dry more slowly over a period of days using low heat from a light bulb.

Right now with my eyes still smarting from the smoke, I tend to favor
number one.

If you will indulge me one more question.  Bill, What is a "pole pig"?
